The jazz night which took place at the Indian High Commission Abuja on Saturday, January 18 was fun filled with classical music from talented artistes.

For those who are familiar with the Indians, jazz is like food to their soul. The show comprised of well-known jazz musicians in Nigeria alongside top dignitaries in the country like Oby Ezekwesili, former education minister, John Fashanu, Yemi Davies etc.
There were also performances from top notch artistes like Tee Mac, the former President of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, (PMAN), Orliam, an international artiste from Benue state, Simon Sniper, a songwriter and solo artiste, John Bethel, a guitarist.
Other artistes include Asike, Adeh, Edge and Ugo Stephenson.
Onyeka Nwelue, an author and the organizer of the event told  that there is a strong connection with jazz and classical music in Nigeria and India.
He said that was the reason he decided to host the show in Nigeria.
“Indian and Nigerian jazz musicians are known around the world and at the end of the day, there is confusion because most jazz musicians in Nigeria are called afro beat musicians.
“Indian jazz musicians get typified as classical musicians which is okay because of the instruments embedded on making the music,”said Nwelue.
“This is why we decided to offer Nigerians the opportunity to watch Nigerian jazz musicians perform.”
Simon Sniper, one of the performers at the event expressed his satisfaction and class of the event.
He said: “Performing on same stage with top artiste like Tee mac and Yinka Davies was truly an awesome experience.
“The energy and the vibe from the audience was equally amazing.
“I must congratulate the organisers for putting up such a classic event.! Looking forward to the next Diplomatic Jazz night.”
